Mark was the 1968 SBHS "Student-Athlete of the Year," a multi-sport all-league performer, and a member of the Seraph's first two CIF Championship teams. He was a 3-year varsity letter winner in football, basketball and baseball, sports editor for the school newspaper, and a student-government officer.
In football, Mark was a 3-year, 2-way starter as an offensive tight end, defensive tackle, and punter, and totaled eight receptions in the Seraph's 1968 CIF championship victory over Coachella Valley. He was a captain and 1st team all-league on both offense and defense on the Seraph's 1969 Tri-Valley League champion team.
In baseball, Mark was a 3-year starter at catcher, receiving all-league honors each season. He hit RBI-producing doubles in each of the Seraph's 1970 play-off games, including the 3-0 victory over Bloomington representing the city of Ventura's first, and only, CIF baseball championship.
In basketball, Mark was a 3-year varsity starter, once scoring a then school record 27 points in a victory over Villanova as a junior. He was among league's leaders in scoring and rebounding in 1968 & 69.
Mark attended California State University, Sacramento, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in 1975. There he played two years of varsity football as a CSUS Hornet, and one year of freshman baseball. Mark attended graduate school at California State University, San Francisco, pursuing an MBA in Marketing.
Mark's professional career includes positions within the Sales and Human Resources Departments at Intel, Spectra-Physics Scanning Systems, Wells Fargo Bank, and Seafirst National Bank prior to founding Stephenson & Stephenson LLC in 1997. S&S LLC is an executive search firm that provides recruitment and selection services to clients in the Information Technology, Manufacturing and Financial Services sectors.
Mark and Kelli Stephenson have been married for 26 years, and reside in Eugene, Oregon. They have three children: sons Jeff (25), James (22), and daughter Molly (20). Each graduated from Marist High School in Eugene, and James and Molly attend Oregon State University in Corvallis. Jeff, a 2010 OSU graduate, works in the golf industry in Connecticut.
Mark's post-collegiate athletic passion has been running, and to date he has completed 11 marathons and multiple 1/2 marathons and 10Ks. Additional pursuits include golf, fishing, hiking, and attending year-round Oregon Duck and OSU Beaver athletic events.
