Marguerite Palmisano-Leon is a 1982 graduate of St. Bonaventure High School. While at St. Bonaventure, Marguerite earned 7 Varsity letters in Volleyball, Basketball and Track and Field. Marguerite was also a member of CFS and the Honor Roll.
Marguerite was a starting Varsity Basketball player for 2 years. She held several school records and led her team in scoring, rebounding, steals and free throws, made and attempted during her career. In addition, she was the team captain in 1981 and 1982. In 1982, she was the Seraph Most Valuable Player Award winner. She helped lead the Lady Seraphs to their first appearance in the CIF-SS Play-offs. Marguerite was 2nd team ALL TVL in 1981 and bettered that in 1982 by placing on the 1st team squad. She was also selected All Ventura County.
As a Volleyball player, Marguerite was an Outside Hitter. She was a 2 year Varsity starter. She was a 2 time captain and also won the Most Valuable Player Award in 1982. She duplicated her basketball feats by being named All TVL 2nd team in 1981 and 1st team in 1982. The Seraphs reached the CIF-SS play-offs in both her seasons.
In Track and Field, Marguerite was a three year letter winner. She participated in the Shot Put, Discus, Long Jump and High Jump. She won the team’s Most Valuable Player Award in 1981 and 1982. She was named to the All TVL 1st team in 1980 and 1982. She was a CIF Finalist in the Shot Put in 1981 and 1982. Marguerite held the school Shot Put record for over 20 years.
Marguerite participated in the Varsity Drill Team in 1980 and Song Leader in 1982. Marguerite also received honors in Scholastic Performance. Marguerite was named St. Bonaventure’s Kiwanis Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1982.
Upon graduation Marguerite attended Ventura College. She played Basketball in 1983 and 1984 and Volleyball in 1984. She was a starting forward in Basketball and starting Outside Hitter in Volleyball. As a Basketball player she received several awards: team Most Valuable Player in 1983 and team Captain in 1984. She was named Golden West All Tournament Team in 1983; Western State Conference Leader in rebounds in 1983 and 1984; All Western State Conference 1st team in 1983 and 1984. She helped win tis 1st WSC League championship in 1984. Her team was runner up in the Southern Section of the State play-offs.
She earned a scholarship to play basketball at CSU-Sacramento. She was a starting forward and led the team in rebounds both seasons. Marguerite had a career day on Jan. 20, 1987 against Stanislaus St. scoring a career high 26 points and adding 10 rebounds. For her 4 year collegiate career she averaged a “double-double”. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and in 1988 received her California Clear Professional Teaching Credentials and Special Education Credentials from CSU Northridge.
In the community Marguerite coached volleyball and basketball at the middle school level. She also helped support the Joseph Palmisano Memorial Basketball Camp. Marguerite resides in Santa Paula with her husband Gilbert and their five children: Cecilia (9), Estrella (7), Christopher (6), Helen (4) and Rosemary (2).
