larry montag

 Larry transferred to Saint Bonaventure High School in the spring of his sophomore year. He was an offensive and defensive starter on the 1968 CIF Championship Football Team and played left field on the 1970 CIF Championship Baseball Team. Larry played 3 years varsity baseball receiving All-League 1st team honors twice. He competed in one track meet, the Tri-Valley League Championship Meet and placed first in the 100 yard dash. He played 2 years varsity football receiving All-League 1st team honors as a defensive back his junior year. As a senior he scored 22 touchdowns, was selected All-League 1st team offense and defense and was selected to the All-CIF 1st team as a running back. He and quarterback Tom VanGundy were voted co-MVP's of the 1969 Tri-Valley League Champions.
After 2 years of football at Ventura College and receiving a Fire Science degree Larry started a career as a Los Angeles City Firefighter which would span 28 years. He began running long distance races with a group of LAFD firefighters which eventually led him to the 1981 San Francisco Marathon where he placed 9th in 2 hours and 26 minutes. Larry twice won the firefighter division at the Los Angles Marathon.
He and Lydia, married 37 years and still living in Ventura, have 2 children, Michael 34 and Stephanie 32, and 2 grandchildren, Katrina 8 and William 4.
