BEN HERRERA

During his four years at Saint Bonaventure Ben played football, basketball and baseball. Ben was a member of the 1968 CIF Championship Football team, was the CIF Player of the Year for football, was a team captain and received the Most Valuable Player award. In addition, Ben was All League in basketball and baseball.

After graduating Ben attended Ventura College and managed his family’s restaurant, Herrera’s Mexican Inn, near down town Ventura. Once he received his AA degree, Ben enrolled at Cal State Fullerton and earned a bachelor’s degree in History and Ethics Studies. He then spent two years working with Upward Bound and Neighborhood Youth Corp as a counselor. He then moved to San Diego where he attended San Diego State University in the Secondary Teaching Credential Program.

For the past 30 years Ben has been working as a teacher with the San Diego County Office of Education developing educational delivery systems for a risk students living throughout San Diego County. He has also earned his masters degree in education.

Ben lives in San Diego working with a program he developed called Literacy by Imaging Through Technological Resources. He has one daughter and one grandson.
