ACADEMICS: Information technology
St. Bonaventure has approximately 135 computers on campus. There are 90 computers available for student use. Every teacher and staff member have a computer at their desk. Our classrooms have projectors or flat-panel displays installed and connected to the teacher's computer. There are currently five "virtual machines" running on a redundant host server, maintaining our local domain, and one of our two web sites. The host server is backed up every evening.
All of our faculty, staff, and student computers are running the Windows® 7 or 8.1 Professional operating system. All school computers have Microsoft® Office 2010 Suite installed. Many of our computers are running other specialized programs for particular course needs. Our computer lab was upgraded to include AutoDesk design tools. Google Apps for Education is being deployed for classroom collaboration with students, and scheduling using Google Calendar.
Every teacher, staff member and student has a unique login ID and password. Student IDs are more restrictive and are more closely monitored. All student internet access is filtered and recorded. Student documents and folders are routinely checked. Teachers and staff members are allowed to access student grades, attendance and information. Students and parents may access student grades, attendance and assignment information online using TeacherEase. Faculty and staff are also provided with e-mail and voice-mail.
The two web sites that are maintained by St. Bonaventure High School are www.saintbonaventure.com, and www.sbhshome.org. The first site has general information about St. Bonaventure. It has contact information, school calendar, athletic schedules, and many other links to important information. It also includes the teachers' class web pages for students and parents to access handouts, syllabi, videos, presentations, and information for specific class needs. The second web site is St. Bonaventure's Library Book Catalog.
Students are allowed to use the school's computers throughout the day. The SBHS Library Resource Center has 35 computers available exclusively for student use. The SBHS Library Resource Center is open before school starts from 7:30 AM to 8:25AM, during lunch, and after school until 5:00 PM (after the first week of school).
St. Bonaventure's wireless network utilizes Meru Networks wireless technology. This includes 24 access points installed throughout the campus. Wireless network monitoring and access control is provided through one central appliance, and is filtered for student use. St. Bonaventure uses Wavecrest CyBlock filtering systems.
